Popcorn rock is a natural occurring mineral, found at limited outcrops
in the Great Basin area of the western US. The geologic processes work
to create the beautiful limestone fomations. These formations attract visitors
from around the world to the thermal basins of Yellowstone National Park,
and the underground rooms of Carlsbad Caverns.
Simply put the rock in a clear glass bowl, add just enough vinegar to cover the rock completely, let the vinegar evaporate and watch the popcorn-like aragonite crystals grow. |
